"Given the temperament of the Dark Elves, and the nature of the magic they employ, it is little wonder the spells they cast are destructive in nature. The lore employed by the practitioners of sorcery is violent and terrifying. Their incantations lack any sort of subtly, and are meant to cause as much damage as possible to their intended victims. The strongest of these casters wields terrible power, and are capable of stealing the vitality of their victims for themselves. On more than a few occasions, the barrier between the mortal world and the realm of Chaos has been magically breached long enough to send scores of enemies into the hellish realm."

Overview

All Elves are attuned to the ebb and flow of magic. With training and patience, the High Elves have learned to weave the eight Winds of Magic into potent spells to serve various needs. The Dark Elves of Naggaroth see the mastery of magic quite differently. To these steel-willed arcanists, the ambient magic that exists in the world is to be dominated and manipulated as they see fit. Skill of magic gained through patience, subtlety, and discipline is considered a crutch for those without the will to hammer the Winds of Magic into servitude.

Since the foundation of Naggaroth, it has been decreed by Malekith that only female Dark Elves are permitted to learn the Dark Arts of Sorcery. Even then, the Sorceress' allegiance is to the Witch King, first and foremost, and thereafter to one of the six great Convents. Aside from their skill at focusing the energy of the Aethyr, the women selected to be Sorceresses are expert stateswomen, possessing cunning minds and incredible intelligence. As they are beholden to the Witch King alone, the Noble Houses that seek their talents must negotiate terms for which the Sorceresses will lend their aid. There is ever a cost to be paid, and it is always a high one. While male Sorcerers do exist amongst the Dark Elves, they are viewed with disdain and unable to join the Convents. Instead these outcasts practice their dark arts in service to ambitious noble houses that prefer to remain free of debts to the Convents.

How To Play

If you like to DPS without the hassle of healing or running in there and making yourself vulnerable then the sorceress is for you.

Start encounters with Doombolt and then use Chillwind to add a DOT effect. Stack three copies of Word of Pain on a target to reduce willpower and eventually deliver a huge burst of damage. Shadow Spike can add a powerful damage over time to everyone in front of you, diverting healer’s attentions from your Word of Pain victim. Using Stricken Voices can outright silence the opposing healers, making them unable to react to your incoming damage spike. Obsessive Focus increases your damage against a single target, perfect for the incoming Word of Pain. Fire Gloomburst to quickly deal damage and increase your Dark Magic until Word of Pain activates. The higher your Dark Magic the more damage you can do, but also the more likely you are to damage yourself in the process. With Grip of Fear you can root all those near you in place and get off some nukes unhindered. If you get overwhelmed, use Flee to escape. Be wary when playing a sorceress. Their dark magic has a habit of backlashing and as such will cause you damage as you cause damage to your target.
